Deleite Ancestral
Such a beautiful ancestral Mayan cooking experience right in Esmeralda’s kitchen. I didn’t take too many photos here, as we were deep into the process of learning how to cook with local Mayan ingredients, but this was easily one of our highlights in Guatemala.
We learned so much about the Mayan culture, & the food ending up tasting so fresh & flavorful. We ended up cooking a traditional tomato-based chicken, as well as tilapia laid on a bed of fresh vegetables & spices, & we learned how to make tortillas + their own unique way of making tamales. Everything was delicious & I loved how a lot of the food was wrapped in leaves. It reminded me of the Vietnamese banana leaf, but Central America’s version.
The hospitality was beyond warm & inviting & you can really feel the closeness of Esmeralda’s family. Definitely loved that they built the establishment themselves too, & that the architecture was inspired by an artisan clay jar. Seriously such a stunning venue!
